What is telemedicine?Imagine this: you're feeling a little under the weather, but the thought of getting dressed and making your way to your healthcare provider's office seems daunting. That's where telemedicine comes in! It's like having a doctor visit you at home, but instead of them coming through the door, they pop up on your computer screen or phone, offering you the comfort and convenience you need in such situations! Here's the beauty of it: you can schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider just as you normally would. The only difference is, instead of physically going to the clinic, you can use a video call app (think of it as a fancy FaceTime!), make a phone call, or even send messages. It's like having a chat with a nurse practitioner! During your telemedicine visit, you can talk to your healthcare provider about what's bothering you, just like you would in person. Rest assured, based on your visit, your provider can prescribe and treat you. Sometimes, your provider will refer you for an in-person evaluation, ensuring your health is in professional hands. Telemedicine is super helpful for two reasons: Saves Time and Effort: Sometimes it's hard to get to the healthcare provider's office, especially if you're not feeling well. Telemedicine lets you stay comfy at home in your pajamas (unless it's a video call, then maybe wear a shirt!). Immediate and Convenient: Do you have a quick question for your healthcare provider, like 'Can I have ice cream with a sore throat?' Telemedicine provides you with swift answers, eliminating the need for a lengthy wait at the clinic. So, telemedicine is a cool way to stay healthy and get the care you need, all from the comfort of your own home!

Do you accept health insurance? At Kya Wellness, we currently don't work directly with insurance companies. However, we want to make your health journey as smooth as possible. Here's how we can help: Superbills: We can provide you with a detailed receipt (called a superbill) after your appointment. You can submit this to your insurance company for potential reimbursement according to your plan. Flexible Payment Options: We offer the convenience of accepting payments from your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) if you have one. This can be a reassuring way to utilize these accounts for your health needs. Here are some additional things to keep in mind: Insurance Coverage: It's important to note that each insurance plan is unique, and the amount your insurance covers may vary. To get a clear understanding of your specific out-of-network coverage and reimbursement process, we recommend contacting your insurance company directly. We're here to support you. While we unfortunately cannot assist with contacting your insurance company for reimbursement, we're always happy to answer any questions you may have about the superbill or payment options.

Do I need to have labs in order to begin medication? While labs are not strictly required to start your medication, your provider will carefully review your medical history and discuss your health during your consultation. If they determine that labs would be beneficial based on this assessment, they can order them for you to be drawn at a local facility. Although it's generally recommended to have labs completed before starting medication, this will not delay your prescription from being sent to you. Your provider may simply advise getting the labs done before beginning your medication to ensure optimal safety and effectiveness.
-
Which compounding pharmacy do you partner with?We partner with certified 503-A compounding pharmacies that are accredited by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB). These pharmacies are carefully selected based on your location to ensure compliance with state regulations. Each compounding pharmacy we work with undergoes a thorough vetting process to verify safety and efficacy data, as well as ensure they are in good standing with their respective State’s Board of Pharmacy. If you'd like more information about the specific pharmacy preparing your medication, simply ask your provider, and we’ll be happy to share all the details.
-
What is a Compounding Pharmacy vs. a Regular Pharmacy?A regular pharmacy, like the ones you find in drugstores, provides medications that are mass-produced by large pharmaceutical companies. These pharmacies dispense pre-made medications that are widely available and given based on your doctor’s prescription. Essentially, they provide the same standard medication to everyone. A compounding pharmacy, on the other hand, is different. It creates custom medications by mixing ingredients tailored specifically for you. This is particularly helpful if you need a unique dosage, a different form of the medication (such as a liquid instead of a pill), or even a specific flavor to make the medicine easier to take. Think of it like having a personalized prescription, custom-made just for your needs. At Kya Wellness, we only partner with U.S.-based compounding pharmacies that source ingredients from FDA-regulated suppliers and perform third-party testing on all medications. This ensures that the medications you receive are of the highest, medical-grade quality. If you'd like more information about the compounding pharmacy preparing your medication, feel free to ask your provider during your visit. They’ll be happy to provide the details about the pharmacy being used for your treatment.
-
How long is shipment for medications?Delivery times may vary depending on your state and location. In most cases, your prescription will arrive within 14 days, but it can be as soon as a few days after your visit.

What is a compounding pharmacy?A compounding pharmacy is a specialized type of pharmacy that creates custom medications tailored to your unique needs. Unlike standard pharmacies, which provide pre-manufactured medications, compounding pharmacies mix specific ingredients to formulate a medication that fits your individual requirements. This can be especially helpful if you need a unique dosage, flavor, or form of medication that isn't available in traditional pharmacies. Think of it like having a personalized prescription crafted just for you! At Kya Wellness, although compounded medications themselves are not FDA-approved, we partner exclusively with compounding pharmacies that source their ingredients from FDA-regulated suppliers. These pharmacies also conduct third-party testing to ensure the medications meet the highest quality and safety standards. Please note that insurance typically does not cover compounded medications, but we strive to make our services as affordable as possible. If you'd like more information about the compounding pharmacy preparing your medication, simply ask your provider during your visit. They’ll be happy to share which pharmacy is being used to meet your needs.

Why the name Kya Wellness? When I set out to create my private practice, I wanted a name that truly reflected my mission and passion for women's health. During my search, I stumbled upon the New Zealand phrase "Kia Ora," a Māori greeting that is used for greeting someone but it also is used and translates to "have life" or "be healthy." The phrase resonated deeply with me—it encapsulated everything I wanted for my patients: life and health. However, in the United States, "Kia" is commonly associated with a car company. I didn't want any confusion or people mispronouncing the name, thinking my practice was related to cars. So, I thought about how often names are adapted to fit their pronunciation rather than their original spelling. This led to the creation of "Kya." I decided not to use the "Ora" part of the phrase. From what I understood, "Kia" translates to "be," and that felt right to me. I brainstormed a few different options, but "Wellness" stood out the most. Wellness isn't just a word—it's a state of being that I aspire to help my patients achieve. It's about holistic health, balance, and vitality. Thus, Kya Wellness was born. The name is a blend of inspiration from a beautiful cultural greeting and my dedication to supporting my patients' journeys toward optimal health. At Kya Wellness, my goal is to help you "be" in the best possible way—healthy, balanced, and full of life.

How do GLP1 medications work?GLP-1 medications help your body manage blood sugar and control hunger. Here's how they work: Help Your Body Use Insulin: Insulin is a hormone that helps lower blood sugar levels by moving sugar from your blood into your cells, where it's used for energy. GLP-1 medications make your body more responsive to insulin, which means your body can lower blood sugar levels more effectively. Reduce Hunger: These medications send signals to your brain that make you feel full and satisfied. By reducing your appetite, you eat less, which can help you lose weight over time. Slow Down Digestion: GLP-1 medications slow the process of food leaving your stomach and entering your intestines. This slower digestion helps keep you feeling fuller longer after a meal. These medications are especially helpful for people with conditions like diabetes or those who need help managing their weight. They work by supporting your body's natural processes to control blood sugar and reduce hunger.

Do you do Prior Authorization (PA) for medications with my health insurance?Unfortunately, at this time, our team can't directly submit PAs for you. We understand this might be a little inconvenient, and we apologize for any extra steps it might cause. In the meantime, we're happy to help you with everything else related to your medications, like making sure they're the right ones for you and answering any questions you have about your prescription.
-
Can I use my insurance for any medications I'm prescribed?Great question about using insurance for your prescriptions! Here's the scoop: When it comes to your prescription, you're in control! If you prefer your prescription sent to your local pharmacy, your insurance can definitely be used. However, it's important to note that insurance coverage for medications can vary. We recommend checking with your insurance company directly to see if a specific medication is covered under your plan. Compounding Pharmacy: If you choose to use one of our partner compounding pharmacies, you can use your FSA or HSA card to pay for it. While these pharmacies offer some great benefits, insurance typically doesn't cover compounded medications. Don't worry though! You can still request a superbill from us, which is like a receipt with details about your medication. You can then submit this to your insurance company to see if they might offer some reimbursement, but keep in mind coverage isn't guaranteed. The key takeaway is to check with your insurance plan! Every plan is different, so they'll be able to give you the most accurate information about coverage for your specific needs. We're always happy to answer any questions you might have about your medications, but unfortunately, we can't assist with the insurance pre-approval process at this time.

How does a telemedicine visit work?A telemedicine visit lets you meet with your healthcare provider from the comfort of your home, using your phone, tablet, or computer. Here’s how it works: Schedule Your Appointment: You book your appointment just like you would for an in-person visit, but instead of going to the office, you join the appointment online. Join the Visit: At your appointment time, you’ll receive a link or instructions to join the video call. All you need is a quiet space and a good internet connection. Talk to Your Provider: During the video call, you’ll talk to your provider just like you would in person. You can discuss your symptoms, ask questions, and get advice. Your provider may also review any labs or tests you’ve had done. Get a Treatment Plan: After the visit, your provider will give you a treatment plan, just like in a regular visit. If you need a prescription, they can send it directly to your pharmacy. That’s it! A telemedicine visit is an easy and convenient way to get the care you need without leaving home.
